I have crocheted for most of my life. My mom taught me when I was little. I also learned to knit, but didn't keep up with it and therefore am much better and more comfortable with crochet.
So, the other day my darling 6 year old little man asked me to teach him how to knit. I told him that I wasn't very good at knitting and would rather teach him crochet. He was very excited and picked out the black yarn I have in my stash (no surprise there, since his current favorite color is black)
We got to work with my personal step number one: rolling the yarn into a ball.
And then, we met with the reason I roll my yarn into balls before starting: the dreaded knot. Momma went to work on this doozy:
I did manage to get it all out, with the exception of one tiny knot, which will easily be crocheted into whatever project we're doing at the time.
And so, off to the next step: learning to chain. And this is where we left off. Liam's really liking it so far and keeps asking (unfortunately at times when I have to say no) to continue learning. I am happy that my little guy wants to do this with me!

So sweet. What a wonderful skill to pass on to your son.
He'll be crocheting you a hot pad before you know it. :)
