Cider Time!

My dad *finally* bought himself a cider press, after talking about one for years. It makes me happy. My dad is a wonderfully frugal man, but sometimes....a lot of times...his frugality talks him out of buying things he really truly wants and could get good use of. The cider press is one of those things. With a half dozen large, good producing trees on the property, a cider press is actually pretty necessary.
So, when I was told that not only had he bought one, but he wanted us to go over and have a cider pressing day, I was super excited.

The kids (okay, lets be honest, ME TOO) loved each part---from picking the apples, to wash them, to running them through the machine that pulverized them, to turning the handle on the press to squeeze out the juice, to finally drinking the cider. We had it warm and cold and loved it each way. We pressed 7 gallons of cider that day!
I didn't get a picture, but we had Rusty with us and he was chasing apples and gnawing them and having a good old time. It was fun. He loves the freedom he gets at my parents' house!
